Mark Pitchforth

John Barnes was my great hero as a kid. 

The greatest goal I saw him score was an overhead volley against Blackburn in the mid-1990s. I still remember Barry Davies’ commentary: ‘Oh! One for the scrapbook!’ he proclaimed. 

The goal was particularly special as it was in the later years of John’s career when some had suggested his genius might have been diminishing, but it was still there. Class is permanent.
