A bleak afternoon at East End Park in 1982. The memory of the piercing scream lives on.

Dunfermline Athletic defender Jim Brown had just been the victim of an atrocious challenge from St Johnstone’s John Pelosi; a sliding, no-holds-barred, awful challenge.

A mere 12 years old, I had gone with a friend to take advantage of the opening of the gates for the last 20 minutes. Free admission to the ‘good seats’ was an opportunity not to be missed.

We had yet to take our seat when Jim Brown’s scream rang out. His leg was shattered and would never be the same again. A year later he sued Pelosi for the damage done to his career.
