James McFadden’s goal against France in the Euro qualifier in 2007 was probably one of the most unexpected but most uplifting goals I ever saw for Scotland.
We were pretty much digging in as usual and it looked like the French would break us down till a goal kick from Gordon, straight to McFadden, who turned and struck it from 30 yards out.
Whether it was a ‘hit and hope’ or the keeper should have saved it, it was still a classic goal and a great win for Scotland just when we needed a confidence boost.
Like the commentator said, the French were frazzled that night!
