William Tenney

Half time – St Mirren 0 Partick Thistle 2; but what a second half.

Alan Logan, the true super sub, came off the bench and stuck three past Scotland No.1 Alan Rough, the third a header from out of the grasp of Roughie. Wee Alan was only 5’4″ tall.

It was one of many memorable comebacks at Love Street when flair and goals were the name of the game… oh for the 80’s again (without the music please)

It was 30 years ago but still seems like yesterday. We had some great tussles with Thistle: one of the real football teams just like the Buddies, true history, a link to the area and a proper football stadium, warts and all.

Progress can’t be stopped but it isn’t always for the better. Standing watching a match with a decent crowd and some goals was always what football was about; a game for the masses not corporations. Still, what can you do? For as the words of our anthem go; “and in the past they must remain” but “the Saints will go marching in.”
